This update was posted on 8/19/2021. It contains our most current lodging and guiding policies for 2021 and 2022.
Let me begin by stating that we take the virus very seriously. Because of the Delta variant and the fact that the vaccines have a tendency to weaken over time, we are now requiring all adult guests to have been vaccinated in order to stay at Rock and River this fall and winter (2022). Needless to say, all our staff and guides are fully vaccinated…
Our plan is to continue offering mostly group lodging for 2021 and 2022. Because we miss many of our regular customers, we will, at times, open up our Guide’s House to individual room rentals (without breakfast but kitchen use is available). We will post those dates from time to time here under “News and Updates”. Only those that are vaccinated will be allowed to rent a room and a three night minimum will be required…
Most of the season, we will rent both our buildings – The Guide’s House and The Climber’s Lodge – to self-contained groups/families only. For smaller groups and families, we will continue to offer reduced rates when renting a whole building. Call us to discuss. 518-576-2041
We will continue to not serve breakfasts nor provide trail lunches. Information has been posted as to where one can find take-out meals/pizza, delis, bakeries and grocery stores, all of which are located nearby in town.
Because we live next-door and all our staff and guides are vaccinated, we can talk with our guests outside and answer questions/give advice as needed – especially regarding excellent hiking, climbing, paddling, swimming and skiing options.
Reservations can now be made online for one or both buildings. We recommend that you call to book just to make sure you understand what we have to offer. Our # is 518-576-2041.
For those seeking further information, our rates and building descriptions can be found under the Lodging – Group Rentals section of our website – or simply call us!
Because all our guides are vaccinated, we will be providing rock and ice guiding through our Private Guiding program to individuals as well as small, self-contained groups such as families and/or friends, year-round. We will continue to offer Group Guiding to institutional groups but they will have to break up into two groups if more than 6 clients, especially during busy periods. This is the direction climbing is headed in the Adirondacks and is simply the responsible thing to do…We will continue to offer hiking guiding as always…
In order to make the guiding experience as safe as possible, we’ll need to vary from our previous guiding procedures in several minor ways. These include:
- Clients will need to wear masks while getting geared up indoors
- Clients will need to provide their own transportation thus driving separately from their guide
- Clients will need to provide their own lunches, snacks and fluids
- As of 9/1/21, we will no longer accept non-vaccinated clients through the winter of 2022 (unless under 12 years old or having a legitimate medical reason)
